We love dinosaurs! We love retro! So why not combine the two? Jurassic Arts is an expansion of a 1970s line of dinosaur toys produced by Aurora Plastics called Prehistoric Scenes. They were part model kit, part action figure, and interlocking bases to make a gigantic dinosaur diorama.
JURASSIC ARTS BRANDING
FROM BASEMENT HOBBY TO ONLINE SPECIALTY STORE
Scott Banks, the founder of Persuasion Bureau, loves prehistoric creatures. He is also an illustrator, designer, maker, and sculptor.
After finding an old dinosaur model kit that he had as a child at a flea market, his passion was rekindled. The kit was missing a few pieces and needed some TLC, so he sculpted the parts needed out of epoxy. One thing led to another, and Jurassic Arts was born.
Today Jurassic Arts makes "garage-style" model kits cast in resin from the original sculpts of Scott Banks and several of his friends. Each model kit is a limited edition and shipped with an archival quality print of the box cover art.
Passion projects and side-hustles tend to be more "hands-on". Here I am silk-screening boxes and t-shirts for some of Jurassic Arts best customers.
THE BUSINESS OF HAVING FUN
Who Doesn’t Love Stop Motion Dinosaurs (and Cavewomen)?
We love campy old movies. We love dinosaurs. We love vintage movie posters. So when designing the Maker-Faire Atlanta booth for Jurassic Arts, we put this together for a little bit of fun. Based on the poster from Hammer Studios 1970 film "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth", we rebuilt the illustration and created a new title treatment for our version. It was just a one-off poster, but I was amazed at how many people wanted to buy it.

A LABORATORY FOR NEW IDEAS
Getting our hands dirty developing and marketing products in real-time helps our clients. For Jurassic Arts, we were able to test many entry-level online store websites to see which one is the easiest for a business just starting up to use.
In addition to launching an online store, we took it on the road to share our dino-passion and maker skills with others.
At Maker Faire Atlanta we created a mini-dinosaur museum as a brand activation for the store. It was designed as an educational experience in model making and special effects in which we used the products as examples of what can be done silicones and resin.
